PRP/Plasma Procedure

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is an emerging biologic tool in regenerative medicine which harnesses the body’s own natural healing powers by injecting PRP directly into and around the injured or affected area.

PRP is plasma with enriched levels of platelets. Platelets are the body’s natural response to injury, and they contain powerful biological factors supporting the regeneration and healing process. Concentrating the platelets and injecting them into the affected area will jump start the healing process and improve pain, stiffness and function.

In order to obtain PRP, we will draw a small sample of your blood, place the sample in a centrifuge that spins the blood at high speeds separating the platelets from the other components, and then inject the PRP into and around the injured or affected area.

Advantages of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

  • It’s safe. PRP is a by-product of the patient’s own blood; hence, no risk of transmissible infection.
  • It’s convenient. PRP is processed on site, under strict sterile conditions. The PRP procedure is carried out with only a small amount of blood in the doctor’s office; no hospital setting is required. Patients can return to normal activity the same day.
  • It’s effective. The efficacy of PRP in orthopedic applications was reported and confirmed by well- established scientific studies including a study published in the Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine.
