What is regenerative medicine?
Regenerative medicine is the process of regenerating human cells to repair or restore structure and function to damaged tissue or cells.
Does HumanFX use any embryonic stem cells?
No. Our procedures use your body’s own adult stem cells – also known as “mesenchymal stem cells” – from fat tissue.
What are stem cells and how do they work?
A stem cell is a cell that can replicate and differentiate. In other words, it can multiply and turn into different types of tissue. Adult stem cells – also known as “mesenchymal stem cells” – are used in HumanFX’s StemPlate™ procedure because these stem calls can multiply and differentiate into bone and cartilage as well as other types of tissue.
Why does HumanFX use fat tissue rather than bone marrow as a source of stem cells?
HumanFX uses fat tissue rather than bone marrow for two principal reasons. First, recent studies have shown that the density of multi-potent stem cells is much higher in fat tissue than in bone marrow. Second, the extraction of bone marrow can be a more painful procedure than the extraction of fat tissue through a process commonly known as liposuction. The liposuction process takes approximately twenty minutes with minimal post–operative discomfort and minimal restriction on activity.
Is the StemPlate™ procedure approved by the FDA?
StemPlate™ is an experimental procedure that has not yet been approved by the FDA. HumanFX is offering the StemPlate™ procedure as part of a clinical trial approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) of the Institute of Cellular Regenerative Medicine. The FDA has approved regulations empowering the IRB to approve, disapprove, review, monitor and provide critical oversight functions for the clinical trial.
What is PRP therapy?
PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma. PRP is plasma with enriched levels of platelets. Platelets are the body’s natural response to injury, and they contain powerful biological factors supporting the regeneration and healing process. Concentrating the platelets and injecting them into the affected area will jump-start the healing process and improve pain, stiffness and function.
How quickly do patients typically see improvement following a procedure?
Results of the procedure vary by individual. You could expect gradual improvement from one to three months. The full effect of the procedure will be known within 70-90 days after the procedure, again depending on your body's regenerative capacity.
Do you guarantee patient improvement or a cure?
PRP and stem cell therapy are advanced, experimental procedures, which have only recently been applied worldwide and for which the long-term studies and reliable documentation on successes, risks and side effects required for a recognized procedure are not yet available. HumanFX's StemPlate™ procedure is offered as part of a clinical trial approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) of the Institute of Cellular Regenerative Medicine. HumanFX cannot guarantee patient improvement or a cure.
What is the cost of the PRP and StemPlate™ procedures?
The cost varies depending on the condition being treated and the procedure that is recommended. If interested in learning whether PRP or StemPlate™ is right for you, please fill out the Patient Candidate Form on our website and HumanFX will contact you to schedule an initial consultation with one of our doctors. A non-refundable fee of $200 is charged for this consultation which includes an office examination and an evaluation of your MRIs, X-rays or other medical records. If the doctor determines that you qualify for the PRP or StemPlate™ procedures, HumanFX will apply the $200 towards the cost of the PRP or StemPlate™ procedure.
Does health insurance cover the cost of the procedures?
No, insurance does not cover the cost of our procedures.
